Day 1 - Arrive at Lhasa airport (Elevation 3, 650 m / 11,972 ft)

  • Travel to Lhasa and use the afternoon for acclimatization.
  • Night’s Stay and Accommodations: Lhasa

Day 2 – Lhasa sightseeing

  • Spend the morning at the Potala Palace. Visit the Jokhang Temple and the Barkhor Circuit in the afternoon. Attend a welcome dinner and trip briefing.

Day 3Explore Drepung Monastery and warm-up for trek

  • Visit Drepung Monastery in the morning. Drepung once housed 10,000 monks and once was the largest monastery in the world. Spend the afternoon walking the Lingkor. The Lingkor is a traditional pilgrimage route that circuits the entire old town and Potala Palace. It is 8 km long and provides a great warm-up before our trek begins, while also being a great opportunity to see and experience Lhasa.

Day 4Trekking preparation and sightseeing

  • A half-day hiking program at Papongkang. Visit Sera Monastery during the afternoon. Sera housed 5,000 monks during its peak time and now it is the good place to see the monks debate.

Day 5Ganden to Yama Do

  • Drive an hour to Ganden Monastery (4,176 m / 13,700 ft). Visit Ganden Monastery and begin the trek to Samye Monastery with a 3-4 hour hike to Drubshi Valley, and then on to Yama Do where camp will be set up.
  • Night’s Stay and Accommodations: Camping

Day 6Yama Do to Tsotup-Chu Valley

  • Climb to Shugar La Pass (5,250 m / 17,220 ft). Enjoy the views of the valley and the lake when gradually descending after the pass.  Tsotup Chu is a great place to see Tibetan Drokpas (nomads) during the summer season. We will camp here for the night. Total trekking time for the day is approximately 6-7 hours.
  • Night’s Stay and Accommodations: Camping

Day 7Tsotup-chu Valley to Herders’ Camps

  • Trek over Chitu-La Pass (5,250 m / 17,089 ft) and enjoy the scenery and pass numerous nomad camps. Set up the camp in a wooden area for the night. Total trekking time for the day is approximately 6-7 hours.
  • Night’s Stay and Accommodations: Camping  

Day 8Herders’ Camps to Nyango

  • Now the trail becomes easy and wide compared to the last 3 days. You are going to have a very delightful journey today and will see many kinds of trees after hiking a few hours. The rhododendrons start to bloom in early May and the views are gorgeous. The forest will thin right before the Changtang, the first village after the Hepu. The trek ends at Nyango. Total trekking time for the day is approximately 4-5 hours.

Day 9– Samye Monastery to Tsedang; explore Yarlong valley

  • Explore Samye Monastery and drive 1 hour to Tsedang; explore the Yarlong valley during the afternoon.
  • Night’s Stay and Accommodations: Tsedang

Day 10 – Depart from Tibet: 
Transfer to the airport and leave Tibet after a great trek.
